A Sustainable Solution for the Prefabricated Building Sector: Light Gauge Steel Building Systems
The Sustainable Brands Conference brought together sustainability professionals, with Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş., a leader in the light gauge steel structure sector, presenting its sustainable product designs. Mustafa Tolunay, Deputy General Manager of Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş., shared the company’s sustainability initiatives and technology investments with industry professionals.
The Sustainable Brands Conference took place on 28–29 May at Swissotel The Bosphorus. At the conference, which brought together sustainability experts, Mustafa Tolunay, Deputy General Manager of Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş., a Hekim Holding company and a pioneer in the prefabricated building sector, delivered a presentation entitled “Sustainable Product Design in B2B: An Example from the Construction Sector” and outlined the company’s sustainable brand objectives.
A Container with 0 Carbon Emissions: Mars
In his conference presentation, Tolunay noted that Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş. had been investing in sustainability since 2004. He explained: “For prefabricated living spaces built using light gauge steel building systems, we develop innovative, ecological buildings that do not harm the environment and prioritise savings in time, materials, energy and labour. At Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş., we set ourselves apart in our sector with ecological, green buildings that use 100% recyclable steel as their raw material and other product components that are 90% recyclable, produce 0 carbon emissions and can generate their own energy. This year, Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş.’s Mars container project was selected as one of the best practices featured in the Innovation section of the Türkiye İMSAD Sustainability Report. In the Mars container, photovoltaic panels installed on the roof meet all the building’s energy needs without the need for natural gas. With façade types for cold, hot and temperate climates, it offers high resistance to all climatic and environmental conditions wherever it is located. Its portability also enables easy transport and installation in nearly 80 countries across 6 continents, from Siberia to Algeria and from Iceland to Saudi Arabia.”
Sustainable Structures for Cities with Strong Brands: Multi-Storey Green Buildings
At the conference, Tolunay also emphasised the importance of building city brands: “Cities with strong brands must be sustainable cities. Sustainable cities, in turn, must consist of sustainable structures. At Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş., we are continuing our sustainable product design work with multi-storey structures that we call green buildings. We introduced a first for the sector: Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş. was the first to manufacture 8-storey steel structures. In our earthquake-prone country, this technology enables us to design high-rise prefabricated buildings using the system with the greatest earthquake resistance. Our multi-storey light gauge steel structures will become an ideal option for housing, schools, student accommodation, military buildings, healthcare facilities and many public buildings.”
A Sustainable Development Approach
Mustafa Tolunay, Deputy General Manager of Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş., delivered his presentation entitled “Sustainable Product Design in B2B: An Example from the Construction Sector” at the Sustainable Brands Conference on 29 May from 12:00 to 12:20. Tolunay also stated that Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş. considers sustainability from multiple perspectives: “Alongside the environment, the social and economic dimensions of sustainability are of great importance to us. With this in mind, we set goals for a sustainable environment and development. Sustainable development approaches and progress, which form part of our methods for moving forward, shape our outlook. We invest, prioritise innovation through research and development and product development investments, and launch initiatives.”
At the Sustainable Brands Conference held at Swissotel The Bosphorus, Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş. distributed 1,000 stone pine trees “FOR A SUSTAINABLE WORLD AND A GREEN FUTURE”. Ms Tuba Ünsal visited Prefabrik Yapı A.Ş.’s stand and “expressed her thanks for our environmental awareness.”
